I have tried many yoga classes on and off over the years and if I’m honest, I used to spend most of my time looking around the class thinking, what am I missing which everyone else seems to be getting out of it?! That was until I walked into Leanne’s group, where I felt instanly at ease and loved the way she taught her class. I felt like I had been for an hour long massage every time I left, totally relaxed and clear headed. I knew as soon as she mentioned she was a mummy of two children, I had to feature Leanne on the blog and what a beautiful bohemian family they are. Leanne welcomed me into her amazing family home she shares with her husband Dan, son Carlos 6 & daughter Paloma 4.
➳ WHERE WAS HOME FOR YOU GROWING UP? AND WHERE DID IBIZA FIT IN?
I grew up in Salisbury, but spent most of my childhood in the Newforest or Bournemouth and then made the leep to London in my mid 20’s. I first went to Ibiza when I was 22, with friends, and I cried all the way home. I left a piece of my heart in Ibiza on that holiday and continued going back every year without fail…and I still cried every time I left! ;0)
➳ HOW DO YOU BALANCE BEING A WORKING MUM ON THE ISLAND?
Balance… hmmm.. well thats the idea, but time with my children and husband is my priority and I work everything around this the best I can. I do have a lot of help! I’m a little bit of a control freak and very organised, so I’m learning to share and communicate. My own yoga practice and meditation is essential for harmony. Some days it’s a juggling act, but I’m very lucky to have people in our lives who are like family and give us so much support. If all else fails, play Maniac (Flashdance) and have a good old boogie like no-one is watching you…and never take things to seriously!
➳ WHAT IS THE MOST SPECIAL PART OF MOTHERHOOD FOR YOU?
Wow, Where do I begin?! The empowering feeling that motherhood gives me is scary, yet amazing, all rolled into one. Somedays I have no-idea what I’m doing and question everything, but seeing my two beautiful, kind souls growing-up fills me with emmence pride and gratitude. My children give and forgive without question and they are my teachers. I call them my little guru’s! Motherhood makes me ‘feel’ what life is all about and they bring me so much fun, laughter, love, hugs, cuddles, bundles, tickles and giggles.
➳ DO YOU HAVE ANY FUN TRADITIONS YOU SHARE WITH YOUR CHILDREN?
In our house we call it ‘making memories’ and we make a lot of them! Our weekly ones are Taco Paco Friday’s and Pancake / Pyjama Sundays. All our days involve lots of bad singing and dancing! We love being out doors, but since moving, our new favourite thing is being at home together every moment we can.
➳ DO YOU HAVE ANY HEALTH & BEAUTY TIPS YOU SWEAR BY?
I’m not big on products and really up on ingredients. I used to be a spa development manager for a cosmetic brand, and I saw from behind the scenes, how marketing works and the secrets behind all those potions. I swear by good old sleep and lots of water (although I dont get enough, but when I do I see a huge difference!) I do face yoga (funny but amazing) and I love my jade roller! I’ve never used any night products. My mum taught me, from a young age, that your skin needs to breath and re-generate at night so let it. My all time favourite brands are Pevonia, Caudalie and Trilogy’s Rose oil.
➳ WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ‘GO TO’ SPOT ON THE ISLAND…
AS A FAMILY?
We’ve been here for 3 years and we have barely scratched the surface of beautiful places in Ibiza. It’s so rich with beauty, true, wow, diverse, crazily stunning beauty. I would have to say, cycling in Formentera is our family favourite at the moment, as well as kayaking in the caves of Cala Sant Vincent and sunrise to sunset on Cala Conta.
➳ WITH YOUR HUSBAND?
When it’s just us, we love Can Curreu’s Spa and going out to dinner. The london couple in us loves a little a treat…beach house, Amante and our favourite is Heart. Otherwise, we pretty much do everything with the kids. In Ibiza it would be weird to not take your children, of course not to the clubs, but it’s all about family here and I love that!
➳ WITH YOUR GIRLFRIENDS?
we’re pretty boring now and we love going to each other’s houses for a gossip…not that we gossip! ;0) When my besties are over, El chiringito is a tradition and just love enjoying the best of ibiza and quality time together.
➳ WHAT IS THE MOST MEMORABLE HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS WITH YOUR KIDS AND WHAT’S ON YOUR TRAVEL WISH LIST?
Well, you know what im going to say… yep Ibiza! We came here 3 or 4 times a year with the kids from wee babes and we have such special memories of building dreams and talking of the future. Another favourite, as a family, are festivals. We went to many, all over the UK, and still do in our campervan and have the best times ever! Now we want to do more in Europe and Spain. On our travel wish list is Costa Rica and more time in India. Travel is huge to me. I worked as a therapist for Virgin Airlines, just to see the world, and now I want to share that with my children. As Dalai Lama says..”Once a year go some place you’ve nevr been before”
➳ WHAT IS YOUR MOST INSPIRING READ?
The Alchemist changed my life. It made me sell everything and move to London. ‘Sophie’s World’ rocked my world! I’m constantly inspired by my yoga reads, ‘Light on Life’ and ‘Yoga’ are my bibles.
➳ WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF BEING YOUR OWN GIRL BOSS?
I am so lucky to do what I love as my job and manage to make it work in Ibiza! I am blessed, humbled, tested, challenged, inspired and forever learning. My journey has just begun and I hope it continues to grow and if my class touches just one person, then I’m very proud.
➳ WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF LIVING ON THE ISLAND FOR YOU?
The best part of being in Ibiza is the out door living, being amongst (and so in-tune) with nature is breath taking and magical! The best, best bit is sharing it all with my family. The space and freedom my children have is more than we could have ever imagined, and we all enjoy such precious quality time together, making amazing memories. Yeah, there’s fab clubs, beaches, restaurants and parties but the mind-blowing natural beauty of Ibiza stays in your heart forever. There is something you just can’t explain. The people, the atomsphere, the magnetic essence that’s in the air, you can’t explain it, but you can feel it…it’s just magical.
Thank you to Leanne, Dan, Carlos & Paloma, what an amazing house to be around full of love & laughter. Take a peek at the behind the scenes shots, all captured by the lovely Gypsy Westwood, kids, dogs and not forgetting that cool VW camper van…
