This week Bohemian Bond was invited into the home of international fashion designer Camilla Vesth, recently relocated to Ibiza with her husband Kasper and young son Willas. They have set up family life in a stunning traditional Spanish villa with a very cool Scandinavian twist in the heart of the island Santa Gertrudis.
➳ WHERE WAS HOME FOR YOU GROWING UP?
Denmark Copenhagen – My parent’s left Chile as refugees in 1975 and I was born and raised in Copenhagen
➳ WHY IBIZA?
After leading busy London lives for a few years we decided it was time for a more balanced lifestyle where we could focus on family and spend time in the sun. Ibiza was the perfect solution and we moved here in January 2015. This will be our second year living on the island full time and we’ve definitely got no plans to leave!
➳ HOW DO YOU BALANCE BEING A WORKING MUM ON THE ISLAND?
I work from my home office which allows me to focus and get away from the normal disturbances. My day starts as soon as my son and husband heads out in the morning and I keep concentration going until I take a break for lunch which for me means a beautiful countryside run and a quick bite in a local cafe. Three days a week I take an early morning pilates and strength training class with some awesome Ibiza ladies – it’s the key to my strength and happiness and I can’t imagine my life without it!
➳ MOST SPECIAL PART OF MOTHERHOOD FOR YOU?
My son loves hugging, so we spend a lot of time just hugging, chatting and laughing. He makes my days lighter, brighter and just perfect – Most special part of motherhood is the honour of being part of that little persons life with all the good and the hard times that is involved in being a parent.
➳ ANY FUN TRADITIONS YOU SHARE WITH YOUR CHILD?
When I was a kid, we always had dogs and cats around. The dog was always named Lola (regardless of gender) and the cats always called Oskar.
We decided to keep this tradition alive and Willa’s first dog was therefore named Lola and first cat was named Oskar. We laugh a lot about it, as the dog was a male and the cat was a female cat. As if life isn’t confusing enough!
➳ ANY HEALTH & BEAUTY TIPS YOU SWEAR BY?
8 hour sleep and loads of water (Minimum 2 liters a day)
Regular exercising, for me that is a minimum of 4-5 days a week. It literally makes me a happier and better person. A healthy diet avoiding sugar, alcohol, wheat and dairy as much as possible with cheat days, where I drink big cocktails and enjoy any food I want.
➳ FAVOURITE GO TO SPOT ON THE ISLAND
➳ AS A FAMILY?
Lunching with friends in their beautiful gardens, while the kids run around playing and jumping in the pool. We also love heading out as a family for a mountain walks – There are some beautiful mountains in Ibiza and its a great way of getting your exercise in while seeing some real natural beauty.
➳ WITH YOUR HUSBAND?
➳ WITH YOUR GIRLFRIENDS?
Cocktails and sushi at Cotton Club
➳ MOST MEMORABLE HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS WITH YOUR FAMILY & WHAT’S ON YOUR TRAVEL WISH LIST?
Vietnam, Mango Bay. That holiday had everything you want after hectic work life. Beautiful made and secure resort with amazing food and private beaches. I can not recommend this place enough – It was the best 2 weeks ever
Wish list: Maldives – 6 senses resort… I just keep dreaming of this and hoping we will make it happen one day!
➳ MOST INSPIRING READ?
I read loads, I love reading it gives me inspiration for everything else in life and opens up for imaginary worlds and sometimes makes me a little more clever!
Recently I read 10% happier, which I can only recommend! I won’t tell you anything about it, because you just need to read it, interesting and funny at the same time.
➳ BEST PART OF BEING YOUR OWN GIRL BOSS?
I am super self motivated and love being able to concentrate on my creative projects when working from home. It gives me time to go deep into my work projects, while still being there for my family.
What’s not to like about that!
➳ THE BEST PART OF LIVING ON THE ISLAND FOR YOU?
The one thing that I appreciate the most about our lifestyle here in Ibiza, is the balance between my professional passion (work) and my little family (life).
I love what I do for a living, which is a big plus because my job is my passion.
But this can also be slightly dangerous, because I have not always been very good at limiting my work, because I love it so much.
Working alone from home in my little office, makes me extremely efficient and I get so much done in a working day – Looking back at my last job, where I worked a minimum of 12? hours a day + The commuting back & forth to work, I can now see that the time spent in the office, was not always spent efficiently and that the balance between work and life was completely off.
I feel lucky and blessed to be able to have this balance in my life, as this can sometimes be hard to find in big bustling cities.
A huge thank you to Camilla, Kasper & Willas for letting us into their beautiful family home, for showing us a peek into her amazing bag collection (Camilla treats herself to a new bag for every big occasion in her carer & personal life) fab idea! Is it too late to start?! we finished the afternoon with a glass of wine on there sun filled terrace..
